The Whooping Crane is the rarest crane species in the world. Found solely in North America, Whooping Cranes were on the brink of extinction in 1941, with only 15 birds remaining in the migratory population that travels from Canada to the coast of Texas. Today an innovative project conducted by Operation Migration and other members of the Whooping Crane Eastern Partnership is teaching young whooping cranes to migrate along the eastern flyway with the assistance of ultralight aircraft.
